I want to share some additional thoughts on what is my favorite of these engravings.  This is a Whale Priest, holding a pair of harpoons and wearing a horned cowl and mittens, which were likely made of fur, horker skin, or layers of both.
Above him is poised a figure charging to spear the great whale from a longboat.  Prior to settling in Skyrim, the Nords were predominantly a seafaring people, and living along the frozen shores of the Sea of Ghosts, whaling would have been an important part of life.  A whale could provide meat, bone, blubber, and oil for an entire clan.
The details of the whale itself are also fascinating.  It’s hard to say whether they are the product of the engraving’s artistic style or accurate depiction of the whales the Nords hunted.  The whale has an elongated body similar to those of prehistoric whales such as Basilosaurus and a toothed maw like Mammalodon.  Mammoths still roam around Skyrim, so it’s not hard to imagine that such creatures might dwell deep in the Sea of Ghosts.
